Our Media Should DO MORE! - Syed Razi Hyder (Anchor Person, Bol News Pakistan)

Note: This Blog is a result of an interview that was taken in light of an awareness campaign of desensitization. In Particular, this will highlight media effects on this phenomenon.

The media has the power to shape future generations for better or worse. and our media can and should do more to educate and sensitize the audience of today.

The media has a profound effect on the way people think and act. It can also have a negative impact on the way people view themselves and others. The media is powerful, but it can also be dangerous.

Is desensitization a real thing to you? & have you ever experienced it?

"In recent times desensitization has grown in our society without a doubt." he expands on the question with an example"Today when I was coming to office  I saw an accident of an old lady but the  shocking thing was no one came to check on that lady. that says all about how desensitized we have become"

What are the factors that are causing the growth of this phenomenon?

"In my opinion, there are two factors that directly cause desensitization, one is our fast-living style & we only care about ourselves. the second thing is inflation in my opinion for example if one thing comes into a market retailer wants to make the most money out of it. it does not concern him if a common man would be able to afford it."

Do you believe media is an essential tool to educate people or it should only be business?

In reply he said "Media is also known as the fourth pillar of democracy. so, the importance of media can not be ignored. and in my opinion media is not fulfilling its role properly." moreover he name-dropped PTV news and how they used to work for the betterment of the society.

What role media has played in desensitization?

"Unfortunately media has not been able to play a positive role" he further stated "we are over sensationalizing every news as breaking news. & mostly we break the bad stuff. if we are able to filter out what should be broken and what shouldn't that will be great for the society"

Can you offer a possible solution to this growing problem?

"I think there should be proper SOPs defined to the people what and how to portray news even if it's bad news" he further stated, "we need to create more and more youth targetted programs that engage youth in a positive manner".
